Where do you buy a fridge @ 9 PM on Saturday Night!!
Posted by Sunshine web in Sunshine Coast Web Design, tags: Adam Bean, Sunshine Coast Web DesignA common phrase I hear from business owner is, “I don’t need to worry about a web site or social media as the internet doesn’t affect my business.”
If you think that your business isn’t affected by the internet and social media, you might like to read this post.
This is a real life example, that took place in my own home Saturday night.
This isn’t an example of someone downloading an audio, video or PDF product.
It involves cold hard cash being spent on two very tangible products- a fridge and groceries.
This is not a theoretical “how it could happen.”
It is a real life case study from my own home.
It didn’t even dawn on me what had happened, until the next day.
As it is summer time and things have just started to heat up, our fridge had decided to pack it in.
Nothing unusual there I hear you say, what is the big deal about that Adam!!
The big deal is how my wife managed to purchase another fridge online at 9 pm on Saturday night at 30% discount.
My wife was able to research the fridge she wanted, pay for it, and organize delivery- all without leaving our home office.
That left us free to enjoy a quite Sunday at home, instead of having to endure the torture of battling the Christmas crowds looking for a replacement fridge.
Now just imagine for a minute that you owned that white goods business…
You locked up the shop Saturday afternoon and come back in to your store on Sunday morning with my order sitting on your computer and $1000.00 of my money sitting in your bank account; all while you were home enjoying your night off.
How would that affect the cash flow and profits of your business??
Imagine having a couple of sales like that every week or month even.
That explains how my wife brought the fridge, but what about the groceries.
Well she also now buys the groceries online and has them delivered to our door for a very minimal delivery charge,
especially when you take into consideration the price of petrol these days, and the couple of hours a week it saves not having to go and physically do the shopping.
Yeh yeh fair enough I hear you say, I can see your point about having a web site working for you 24 hours a day 7 days a week, but saying that social media affects white goods and groceries stores is really stretching the imagination.
Well, if you think that way, this next piece of information will blow you away.
Take the social media medium facebook-below is the actual comment my wife posted and this is the power of social media:
“How cool is the internet? Ordered all my groceries online this week and had them delivered the next morning – and – just ordered our new fridge online – being delivered Tuesday. No shops, no running around with bored kids in tow!”
Within an hour this post had comments with my wife’s friends asking who she used and how she did it.
Your business is either receiving or missing out on marketing via social media whether you like it or not.
If your business isn’t taking advantage of the internet and social media, my advice to you is to start taking some action immediately.
